When used as directed for control of the internal parasites of cattle, Paramectin Injection concurrently aids in control of cattle tick (Boophilus microplus) (see Precautions).
Do not use for calves under 16 weeks of age.
Intravenous or intramuscular injection.
Warnings Not to be used for any purpose or in any manner contrary to the label unless authorised under appropriate legislation.
Precautions Field studies have demonstrated an adequate margin of safety. Pregnant and breeding cattle may be treated provided normal care is taken in handling.
Caution is advised in the treatment of severely stressed or debilitated animals.
Avoid carcass damage. Sterilise all injection apparatus by boiling (or equivalent) before use. Avoid use of strong disinfectants on apparatus. Maintain cleanliness at all times.
Use shortest needle possible, certainly not exceeding 15 mm.  As far as possible avoid injection of animals during wet weather or in dusty conditions.
This product must be injected only under the skin and if possible high on the neck behind the ear. Loose skin on the neck in front of the shoulder is also a suitable site.
Tick control. Note that blood levels of abamectin do not reach a peak until 24 hours after subcutaneous injection and female ticks already engorged at the time of treatment may not feed sufficiently to acquire a lethal dose of abamectin. Some engorged females may continue to drop from cattle for 2 to 3 days after treatment and may lay viable eggs. Because of these characteristics, Paramectin Injection is not recommended in strategic dipping programs for the control of cattle tick.
Safety directions. Poisonous if swallowed. May irritate the eyes and skin. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Wash hands after use.
First aid. If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Phone Australia 131 126. If skin contact occurs, remove contaminated clothing and wash skin thoroughly.
Withholding Periods Meat. Cattle: 30 days. Milk. 30 days. Export Slaughter Interval 42 days.
Adverse Reactions Transitory discomfort has been observed in some cattle following subcutaneous administration. A low incidence of soft tissue swelling at the injection site has been observed. These reactions have disappeared without treatment.
Toxicity seen as unsteady gait, and sometimes death, has occurred due to overdosing in some calves. To avoid overdosing, special care must be exercised in estimating bodyweight and setting the injection equipment.
Dosage and Administration 1 mL/50 kg bodyweight by subcutaneous injection, preferably high on the neck behind the ear. Refer to Dosage Guide on product label. Dose should be based on the heaviest cattle in the mob. A representative sample of animals should be weighed either with scales or a weighband before treatment.
The low-volume dosage level of Paramectin Injection makes it convenient for use with most syringes or automatic injectors.
