Composition Aspirin.
Actions Aspirin acts mainly by inhibiting the biosynthesis of prostaglandins to produce an anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic effect. It increases bleeding time by decreasing platelet adhesiveness.
Use for the reduction of platelet activity in the treatment of canine heartworm disease. This prevents the formation of emboli before, during and after adulticide therapy. May be used in the symptomatic treatment of acute febrile diseases and for the relief of pain associated with arthritis in dogs.
Contraindications Administration to animals during pregnancy; in the presence of bleeding disorders or gastrointestinal ulcers.
Precautions May cause testicular atrophy and inhibition of spermatogenesis in large doses. Use with care in the presence of hepatic and renal disease.
Adverse Reactions Vomiting, gastrointestinal bleeding, renal colic (calculi) and anaemia may occur.
 Interactions Concomitant steroids increase the risk of gastrointestinal ulcers.
 Dosage and Administration Administer orally.
Inflammation, pain, fever. 0.3 to 1 g/day (3 to 10 tablets/day) in divided doses. Canine heartworm disease (platelet activity reduction). 3 mg/kg bodyweight on alternate days.
