Manufacturer: Merial Australia Pty Limited Registered Name Heartgard 30 Plus (Ivermectin/Pyrantel) Chewables Each Chewable Contains 68 [136; 272] microgram Ivermectin and 57 [144; 227] mg Pyrantel (as Embonate Salt) Composition Each cube contains ivermectin 68 microgram, 136 microgram or 272 microgram and pyrantel embonate 57 mg, 114 mg or 227 mg respectively. Actions Ivermectin acts by binding selectively and with high affinity to glutamate-gated chloride channels which occur in invertebrate nerve and muscle cells. This leads to hyperpolarisation of these cells, resulting in paralysis and death of the parasite. Compounds of this class may also interact with other ligand-gated chloride channels, such as those gated by the neurotransmitter ?-aminobutyric acid (GABA). A single dose will eliminate the tissue stages of heartworm larvae (Dirofilaria immitis) for up to one month (30 days) after infection, and will remove the intestinal phase of roundworm (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina) and hookworm (Ancylostoma caninum, A. braziliense, Uncinaria stenocephala). Heartworm larvae acquired up to four months prior to the initiation of Heartgard30 Plus will be controlled when monthly treatment with Heartgard30 Plus is continued for twelve months.
